Constructed by the British General Electric Company, the EMU100 series debuted in Taiwan in 1978. A single set of EMU100 comprised five carriages, each was initially painted with three different shades of brown. Known for its elegant livery, superb stability, and excellent sound insulation, EMU100 has earned an affectionate sobriquet of “British Noblewoman.”

The EMU100 series is the first generation of the “Tze-Chiang Express,” the flagship train operated by TRA at that time. As of now, it is mostly withdrawn from service.
