MO-5278
Track Inspection Pioneer of the High-Speed Rail Era
The MO-5278 track inspection vehicle, manufactured by Fuji Heavy Industries of Japan in 1979, played a vital role during the construction of Taiwan High Speed Rail. Its primary duty was to verify that the railway routes were safe and unobstructed. On the four corners of the type R300A track motor car are obstacle detection sensors, installed to detect the presence of obstacles within the required track clearance zone. With the commencement of HSR operations, daily pre-service track inspections were reassigned to the 700T electric multiple units, leading to the retirement of MO-5278. In 2021, the vehicle was officially donated by Taiwan High Speed Rail to the Museum, where it now awaits preservation as a testament to the behind-the-scenes work that ensured a smooth journey.
