Introduction
During the US-aid period, TRW won a contract worth US$530,000 to manufacture 100 brake vans for Thailand. A brake van is attached to the back of a freight train. Its bay window allows a clear view of the vehicles in the front and back.
The valve and hand brake add additional braking capacity. A brake van mainly serves the conductor and associated crew, hence the nickname “the freight conductor's mobile office.”
